Airline

Any traveler who spends time in the air can tell you not all airlines are created equal, and with many carriers looking for ways to cut costs it can be hard to find one that balances affordable fare with great perks. But one carrier has found ways to make even short flights enjoyable without costing an arm and a leg — JetBlue.

JetBlue operates flights across the United States and to select cities in South America, while partnerships with international carriers connects travelers to locations in Europe, Asia and Africa. A flight from D.C. to San Francisco can run as low as just more than $200 with one layover, although refundable tickets will set you back almost four times that amount.

But what sets JetBlue apart from the competition is the amenities offered to all customers. Travelers are allowed one free checked bag, while the second will set you back $50. Once on the plane, travelers are treated to free beverages and snacks, including a choice of various cookies, crackers and nuts. Every seat includes a personal screen with access to 36 channels and radio options powered by SiriusXM. Flights more than two hours include film options, and an overnight flight comes with a Snooze Kit and an “eye-opener” service.

These extras add up to a flight that feels luxurious, even if it is just a few short hours. It’s a vast departure from larger carriers, which are cutting legroom and perks even as prices rise. A JetBlue flight is a great budget option that feels like a splurge.
