Start planning your summer travels to Europe if you haven’t already; travel search engine Kayak says summer airfares from the United States to Europe are up to 42 percent cheaper than last year.
Several cities, like Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague and Reykjavik, have seen reductions year-over-year around 20 to 30 percent. But Zurich takes the cake, showing a 42 percent drop in prices since last summer.
Flights to several European capitals will be cheaper: Flights to Amsterdam dropped around 36 percent, Paris 35 percent and Rome 24 percent. Croatia, seeing a rise in interest from travelers, saw three of its cities make the top 10 with price reductions on flights: Zagreb at an average of 34 percent cheaper, Dubrovnik at 32 percent and Split at 31 percent.
David Solomito, travel expert and vice president of North America marketing, Kayak, said travelers should aim for earlier in the summer for the best prices.
Factors contributing to lower prices include a strong U.S. dollar and the rise of budget airlines.
