If you want to get the more traditional nightlife experience, go to Ximending. This neighborhood is home to great night markets and theaters, such as the Huaxi Street Night Market and the Hong Lo Red Play House.
Daan district is home to many laid-back bars and it has become one of the trendier parts of the city. Check out the Beer & Cheese Social House, which specializes in beer and cheese, as well as Carnegie’s Bar & Restaurant, an old favorite for expats and tourists.
Xinyi is known as the hot spot for clubs where you can dance the night away until the early hours. Top clubs include Babe 18, where the cover price pays for an open bar all night; and Barcode, a classy joint where you have to dress to impress. It also has amazing views over the city, which goes some way to making up for the more expensive drinks.
Those looking for a more relaxed night out will enjoy the many pubs in Zhongshan district. The Brass Monkey is a fun, U.S.-style sports bar, while Mud is a cool spot in the basement of the Amba Hotel.
