Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Imagine visiting the Aguila de Osa, a combination of relaxation and wildlife adventures in Costa Rica’s lush rainforests by spending the week in a luxurious treetop hideaway. Special features include sustainable cuisine from local sources, repurposed materials and well-planned design. For example, many rooms have East-facing windows to capitalize on sunlight and reduce electricity costs. Other perks include rooftop gardens, — both for food and insulation — recycled water and solar panels.

With the renewed interest in environmentalism and sustainable enterprises, it only makes sense that eco-friendly, or eco-hotels, are coming into vogue. These hotels and hideaways offer guests luxurious amenities, incomparable views and unforgettable experiences.

Although this trend is tied to eco-tourism, these sustainable abodes are in a category all their own. The conscious traveler can luxuriate in world-class accommodations with a minimal impact or rest in a modernized treetop inn.

Unlike ordinary hotels, eco-hotels have the privilege of blending in with nature and often are located in national parks or scenic locations. For instance, the Swedish Treehotel provides guests with accommodations atop the country’s most scenic trees.

While price and location limits eco-hotels’ clientele, this trend seems to be spreading faster than wildflowers. Adventurous and eco-minded travelers can use search engines, such as Eco Hotels of the World to find the best accommodations at their destination.
