Lafayette Cemetery #1 

A visit to one of New Orleans’ many cemeteries is a must. The oldest in the city, Lafayette Cemetery #1, is located in the Garden District. Like other cemeteries in the city, Lafayette features aboveground tombs.

Antoine’s Restaurant

Antoine’s Restaurant opened in 1840. Still serving guests daily, it’s also the oldest French Creole fine-dining restaurant in the city.

St. Louis Cathedral

Located in Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter, St. Louis Cathedral is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States. In addition to daily masses, the cathedral hosts a variety of year-round events and services.

Old Ursuline Convent

Completed in 1752, the Old Ursuline Convent is the oldest building in the Mississippi River Valley. It’s the oldest example of French colonial period architecture in the United States. The building is now a museum, open to the public Monday–Saturday.

Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar

A trip to New Orleans wouldn’t be complete without visiting some bars. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar holds the distinction of being the oldest bar in the city; it’s also the oldest in the United States.
