The Ministry of Tourism, India plans to boost the growing niche trend of medical tourism. Medical tourism is the practice of traveling internationally to seek healthcare services. These services can range from elective procedures to complex surgeries.

As outlined by the Ministry of Tourism, India serves as a particular draw for medical tourism for multiple factors. Many doctors and surgeons have either been trained or worked at medical institutions in the United States or Europe and are fluent in English. Many nurses are also fluent in English and have extensive training. Hospitals have top medical and diagnostic equipment. Service and amenities are affordable. Patients could see savings up to 85 percent off complex procedures, according to research from Patients Without Borders.

More than 300,000 travelers arrive annually for medical tourism purposes. The largest metro areas serving this group include Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and New Delhi. There are facilitation counters at major Indian airports specifically to assist travelers arriving on a medical visa.

Make sure you consult with your physician before making any serious medical decisions and also do research on your own before committing to any procedures.
