As of September, Hilton Honors members can redeem Hilton Honors points for Amazon purchases. But is it a good deal?

Signing up is simple. All you do is link your Amazon and Hilton Honors accounts. Then, when you’re shopping and ready to make a purchase, you’ll see an option to use Hilton Honors points as a form of payment.

The large majority of items on the site are valid for this type of purchase, but a few aren’t, like Kindle downloads, music, videos, apps, Prime Memberships, pre-orders, textbooks and AmazonFresh items.

Additionally, you can’t use the one-click checkout if you’re paying with points.

“We are excited that customers can now use yet another one of their favorite rewards programs — Hilton Honors — to shop at Amazon.com,” said David Williams, vice president, Amazon Payment Products. “Amazon continuously strives to delight our customers with new paying experiences and we are pleased to launch this new program with Hilton Honors.”

However, some are finding the offering to be not quite so delightful, as the conversion isn’t a good deal, with users getting around 0.2 cents per point, with 500 Hilton Honors points equaling $1 Amazon dollar.

What does that mean in money talk? For a $100 purchase, you’d be using about 50,000 of your points. When you can get 0.5 cents per point elsewhere, you may not want to bother, but some experts are saying if you have points close to expiring, go ahead. It’s better than the points going to waste.
