Under $100 / North America

Scottsdale, Ariz., delivers a slew of outstanding travel experiences. While visitors can choose to go high end, spending loads of money on greens fees and massages, there are also more accessible ways to experience this impressive city in the desert.

Wake up at Perk Eatery, a diner specializing in Southwest-inspired fare. The huevos rancheros are a great choice, as are the bacon breakfast tacos. Plan to spend around $15.

Hit the trails early to avoid exposure in the hottest part of the day. Check out the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, an expanse of 30,000 acres protected by the City of Scottsdale. You have several options for trails, all of which show off this pristine slice of desert — and potentially some of its wild inhabitants.

For lunch, head back to town and visit Postino, an Italian-inspired restaurant set in a Mid-Century bank building. Spring for charcuterie or a cheese board, or opt for bruschetta or panini. There are discounted wines at just $5 a glass at lunch, too. Budget $20.

No visit to Scottsdale is complete without a trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, his school and home in the desert. Wright’s impressive structures are living works of art, all of intended to complement and highlight the surrounding mountains. There are various tours available for around $35.

End your day at The Mission, a modern Latin restaurant in Scottsdale’s old town. It’s a cozy space with friendly service, tableside guacamole and plenty of fresh takes on classic flavors. You’ll have to be a little conservative with your remaining $30, but you can still have a great meal here for that budget.
