Under $100 / Europe

Approximately 170 miles slightly northwest of Krakow and 215 miles south of Warsaw sits the small Polish city of Wroclaw, often overlooked but full of beauty and wonder. Due to its location at the crossroads of a few cultures (e.g., German, Austrian and Polish), Wroclaw exhibits of marriage of these three countries with a personality all its own.

Begin in the town’s tiny Old Market Square, centered around the skyscraping steeple of the old Wroclaw Town Hall. Now an art museum, the building features unique and curious architecture and dates to the 13th–16th centuries. Spend the morning circling the old square and marveling in the eye-catching roof structures of the Easter Egg-colored buildings that frame each side. If the time is right, try to join a free tour put on by Walkative where only local guides lead you through the city’s fascinating history and beguiling present.

Stop into Zupa for a hearty selection of soups that vary by the day and won’t cost more than a few dollars.

Wander across the Oder River to Cathedral Island for a rainbow of religious houses and the ever-famous “lover’s bridge” where rusty locks hung on the faded green bridge rival those in other European countries.

Finish the day with an international dinner at Folgujemy (), where recognizable dishes cater to all palates and all budgets.
