The charming town of Guildford is known for its shopping, cafes and imposing cathedral. Here is how you can see the best of it for less than $100.
Bill’s is a breakfast favorite with the locals, and it’s not hard to see why. The wide-ranging menu takes in classics like bacon rolls and the Full English, while also offering healthier choices such as fruit granola ($12).
Take a stroll to the cathedral, stopping to marvel at its amazing interior. From here, have a look around the Guildford House Gallery, housed in a 17th-century building.
When it’s time for lunch, there is nowhere better to experience Guildford’s famous food scene than at Britten’s. The restaurant is run by former MasterChef contestant Daniel Britten and serves up a varied selection of modern British dishes ($40).
Britten’s sits right beside Guildford Castle, well worth a visit. Climb to the top for amazing panoramic views over the town and the surrounding Surrey countryside ($4 entry). Indulge your need for retail therapy with a wander around the independent boutiques in town, or window shop at some of the luxury retailers.
After working up an appetite, dive down one of the atmospheric Guildford side streets to Al Vicolo. This little Italian only has five tables, so book in advance, but the food is incredible ($30).
If you want to indulge in another drink after dark, head to Five & Lime for a beer or cocktail ($6).
