Under $100: Hood River, Ore.

Oregon’s Hood River straddles the dry and wet sides of the state, giving visitors a taste of both extremes. Known as the windsurfing capital of the world, the town is full of activities for adventure seekers, foodies and families.

Start your morning with a Nordic-inspired breakfast at Broder Ost, where scrambles and lefse and meatballs will fuel you up for a day of adventures. Plan to spend $20.

Next, spend some time exploring the waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge, just to the west of Hood River. You can choose to take a longer hike to visit some of the more tucked-away falls, or aim for the ones easily accessible from the roadside. These activities are all free.
