The oasis of Huacachina has become a popular stop for backpackers on their way through Peru. Here is how to see the best of the town for less than $100.
Go for breakfast at El Otro Penoncito, the most historic restaurant in Huacachina. The menu is long and there are lots of options for vegetarians ($10).
Suitably fortified, go for a dune buggy and sandboarding tour ($22) in the dunes around town. It’s an amazing experience to see the coastal desert, and riding down the dunes is great fun.
Come back to town for lunch at House of Avinoam. Found inside the Carola del Sur Lodge, this pizza restaurant also has a big bar where you can settle in for a few beers after sandboarding ($20).
In the afternoon, go to the pool at Banana’s Adventure for a few more beers ($15) and cool off in the water. The pool area can get pretty raucous on the right day, and you will soon be happy to go and eat dinner at the Wild Olive Trattoria ($20). Carry on your night at The Pub with some more drinks and pool ($20) before heading off to bed to relax.
