Mallorca (also sometimes referred to as Majorca) is a Spanish island located in the Mediterranean. There’s plenty to see and do in this scenic destination, starting with the island’s capital, and the capital of the Balearic Islands, Palma.
Start your day with mouthwatering pastries at Forn del St. Cristo, an island favorite since 1910. You’ll find a few items you’re already familiar with alongside traditional Balearic treats, for as little as a few euros.
Be sure to spend a proper amount of time at the island’s own UNESCO World Heritage site, the Serra de Tramuntana. The mountains are packed with culture, history and cuisine. Choose to hike one of the popular routes, or rent a car for part of the day and drive the length of the mountains, with plenty of stops in the multiple villages dotting the region.
For foodies, the large variety of tapas, along with the many vineyards, are difficult to pass up. If you stick around Palma, you’ll find a lot of spots offer combo deals for a sampling of tapas plus a drink, starting at €3 and up.
Castell de Bellver is a good place to stop for architecture and history buffs alike. The 14th-century castle is one of the few circular castles in Europe. Entry is only €4 and guided tours are available.
For a casual yet authentic Mediterranean dinner, stop by HPC Restaurant Portocolom. Downstairs enjoy tapas and pintxos every day of the week, from grilled octopus to hummus with oxtail. Then, head upstairs for a cocktail overlooking the water. Shared plates start at €4.30, or you can choose assorted tapas plus dessert for €16.
