Under $100 / Europe

The beaches and nightlife of Mykonos are famous world-round but they’re not the only thing this beautiful island city has going for it. Spend a day here and you’ll discover a unique, friendly culture and some absolutely delectable restaurants around every corner. Exploring Mykonos on a budget is a daunting task, but it can be done.

Start the day with a stop at Captains’ Restaurant on the seafront of the old harbor. It’s one of the few all-day eateries on the island and serves traditional Greek food and some American favorites. A meal here will run around $15.

Head to the Lower Windmills after breakfast for some breathtaking views over the harbor. They’re free to explore and some have been converted into museums showcasing the history of the city’s windmills. From there, make your way to the area of Matogiania, located in the center of Mykonos town. You’ll find a wide variety of chic and colorful shops to explore, but try to refrain from spending money.

During lunch, you’ll want to try Paraportiani Taverna for a quick meal. The family-owned restaurant delivers fantastic seafood for roughly $20. It’s also located right near the Paraportiani church so feel free to stop in and have a peek for free.

When you’re done, head back to the old harbor and embark on a boat trip to Delos. The island and archeological site is UNESCO World Heritage and one of the most culturally significant places in Greece. Tickets for the boat and a tour will cost $32.

You can’t visit Mykonos without spending a little time on the beaches. Make your way to Paradise Beach and spend a little time splashing in the crystal clear waters.

Finally, for dinner, seek out M-eating where you’ll find the atmosphere inviting and modern, yet still classic Greek. The food is simply remarkable. It’s also pricey, so be prepared to lay down $30. You’ll probably have to skip the appetizer and drink only water.
