Under $100 / Asia

Located in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka, Mysore is a great location to plan your stay while sticking to a budget. Stay in 5-star hotels like Grand Mercure Mysuru for $42–45 a night, or the Quorum Hotel for $43–48 a night. Enjoy complimentary breakfast or head out for fuel to explore the sights.

Begin at the Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, a Hindu landmark in Mysore. Climb the hill and get your steps in while taking in the incredible vistas below. The temple is open to the public and provides one of the best views in the city.

Once a bastion for kings and queens, the Jaganmohana Palace is now the home of ancient artifacts, royal history and art by the masters. With an entrance fee of Rs.10–20, or 15–30 cents, you can’t go wrong.

See exotic animals and a variety of rescues at the Mysuru Zoo and wildlife sanctuary, opened in 1892. For 30–77 cents a ticket, see the sloth bear, zebras, wolves, lions and the like.

More museums like the Mysuru Sand Sculpture Museum and the Folk Lore Museum feature impressive sand art designs and unique oddities from Indian culture — all for incredibly low prices.

With such a well-spent day, you’ll have your pick of the lot for dinner and drinks, and all the shopping you can find.
