With plenty of international destinations easing travel restrictions, travelers are expressing growing interest to travel again. Vacasa, North America’s leading vacation rental management platform, recently released a 2022 Fall Travel Trends report highlighting what types of trips travelers plan to take this year.
The study found 58 percent of respondents plan to travel this fall, an increase from last year’s fall travel. With the flexibility of working remotely, it’s easier for travelers to get away this fall. Seventy-six percent of people planning a fall travel trip work hybrid or fully remote. Gen Z and Millennials are more likely than older generations to have fall travel plans, and travelers with kids have more travel plans than those without. Thirty-seven percent of participants are not planning to travel this fall in order to save money, 36 percent are currently not in the financial position to take a vacation and 27 percent are waiting for gas prices to drop.
Most fall travelers are planning quick, two-night weekend or shorter trips, but it won’t be one and done. Seventy-two percent said they plan to travel more frequently this fall, with either two or three weekend getaways and maybe even a longer trip. Half of the participants are currently planning upcoming trips, whereas 24 percent say they are more likely to take a last-minute getaway.
Approximately four in five fall travelers are planning domestic travel and 46 percent of them plan to visit destinations close to home. Sixty-four percent plan to drive, while 44 percent are flying to their fall destinations.
