There’s nothing quite as festive in the fall as, well, a fall festival. This October, New York gives travelers plenty of reason to visit and enjoy a little seasonal fun.

In the Catskills, the Hunter Mountain Oktoberfest runs over multiple weekends throughout the month, including Oct. 7–8 and 14–15. Expect plenty of classic Oktoberfest-style fun at this ski resort, including German beers and food.
In its inaugural year, this event welcomes foodies to Long Island for an entire week of all things oysters, held Oct. 10–15. Visit participating restaurants for limited-time eats and also make sure to visit some of the area oyster farms, for a behind-the-scenes look at the industry.

Back in the Catskills, Oct. 13–29, this festival at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts highlights the artistry of pumpkin carving. Walk through a display of pumpkins carved and arranged to resemble your favorite fictional and mythical creatures and characters.
If you’re more in the mood for whiskey than gourds, try a trip to the Finger Lakes, Oct. 20–21, for this whiskey and bourbon fest in Geneseo.
