Those thousands of photos of your travels lying around on your computer can be a great way to earn a little extra cash with minimal effort. As long as you understand the basics of taking good photographs and have plenty of landscape shots lying around, there are plenty of places to sell them to the public.
Microstock sites
One of the largest photo-sharing sites online is shutterstock.com. That, along with similar websites like iStockPhoto and Dreamstime, can be a fantastic way to earn extra bucks. Sign up and, once you’re approved, begin uploading your photos to the site. The ones approved will earn you roughly 15 percent for each sale.
Magazines
Freelance photographers earn much of their living selling photographs to magazines. Travel magazines are always looking for new shots to share with readers, so seek out the photo editor for your favorite mag and show them what you’ve got.
Newspapers
It’s rare for newspapers to accept freelance photos for submission, but occasionally you’ll find one running an article with international flair that requires a photo from overseas.
Blogs
Not all bloggers are good at taking photos, so you’ll often find them putting up ads for travel photos they can use on their sites. Check out Craigslist or contact your favorite blogger to see if you have something they could use.
Galleries
If you’re producing tons of professional-quality photographs on your travels you might consider putting together a collection for a local gallery. The gallery owner will take a commission out of your sales, but you can still make quite a bit of cash going this route — if you’re good enough.
