Featuring 1,500 listed buildings from every major period of British architectural history from the 11th century onward and a variety of recreational opportunities like cycling tours and garden walking tours, the beautiful, rural English county of Oxfordshire has something for everyone to enjoy.

Map out your day over breakfast at St Giles Café, where generations of Oxford University students have dined since 1937. The Oxford institution serves dishes made with seasonal and local ingredients, like blueberry pancakes, mushrooms on toast and kedgeree, starting from about $7.

What better way to explore this unique city and learn about its history and renowned university than on foot with a guided walking tour? Choose from regular tours of the university and city or enjoy a themed tour, covering a wide range of subjects like C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Harry Potter and stained glass. Tickets start from about $9.

For lunch, stroll through the Covered Market, located in the center of Oxford in a building dating back to the 1770s, to choose from a variety of food and drink options at several vendors, cafes and restaurants. Try an award-winning British pie from Pieminister, serving sweet and savory pies made exclusively with locally sourced ingredients and 100 percent free range British meat for about $10.

Spend the afternoon at Blenheim Palace, an incredible masterpiece of 18th century Baroque architecture and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. This UNESCO World Heritage site boasts more than 2,000 acres of parkland and formal gardens to explore as well as tours inside and outside the Palace highlighting its rich history. After taking a tour and viewing the exhibits, venture via a miniature train to The Pleasure Gardens, featuring a giant hedge maze, butterfly house and adventure playground. Tickets for adults for the palace, park and gardens costs about $34.

Finish your night with a bite and a pint at the Turf Tavern, one of Oxford’s oldest pubs dating back to the 13th century. Located amongst centuries-old buildings along one of the remaining sections of the old city wall, the pub features an incredible range of beers to enjoy as well as British pub favorites like fish and chips, home-baked sticky marmalade-glazed British ham and sausage and mash from about $14.
