If flying isn’t your cup of tea, but you’d love to be able to explore a new destination, a repositioning cruise can get you there without putting you 30,000 feet in the air. Unlike a traditional cruise, a repositioning cruise departs from one location and disembarks at another, rather than taking you roundtrip.
Of course, there are a couple of issues. You’ll either be forced to book a second cruise to get back home, or you’ll end up having to fly back eventually. Either way, it’s kind of like combining two vacations in one; you’ll get the relaxing experience of a cruise for days or weeks and then be able to set foot on the ground in a new city or country and take as many days as you’d like to discover and explore.
Repositioning cruises are offered by popular cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and can take you to destinations such as Bermuda, Dubai or Singapore, or simply another destination in the United States. They often include lodging, meals and entertainment while at sea.
Once you reach your destination, you’re typically on your own. It’s a fantastic way to experience the excitement and relaxation of a cruise without feeling trapped by a ship’s departure schedule.
