We arrived before our Friday night dinner reservation at The Capital Grille, but were still seated immediately. Our waiter, Joe, was incredibly helpful during our meal. The Capital Grille hosts their drink list on iPads and Joe walked us through their selection, offering his suggestions. I started with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and we ordered the cold shellfish platter. The refreshing plate included a chilled, one-pound lobster, shrimp cocktail and oysters on the half shell. If you’re a shellfish fan, this appetizer is a must. We quickly cleared our plates.

For my main course, I ordered the filet mignon, a menu staple. To accompany our main courses, we ordered the creamed spinach and au gratin potatoes. My steak was perfect, as were the sides.

We decided to split a dessert, even though we were full. With many tempting options, we ordered the warm double chocolate cake. Their version came with port wine-infused cherries and vanilla ice cream. The cake was delicious and paired perfectly with the creamy ice cream and to-die-for cherries.

The service, food and drinks at this classic steakhouse were all exceptional. My first visit to The Capital Grille won’t be my last.
