Restaurant

As with any big city, downtown Los Angeles has its fair share of bars and late night eateries but few manage to combine a laidback atmosphere with impeccable beer and food. Barrel Down offers a hip take on a traditional American beer hall with an updated menu, an ever-changing music selection and rotating beers on tap.

Barrel Down is the ideal place to savor unique and mostly local beer. Although they do not offer a flight or taster, Barrel Down sells half glasses starting at $4 and the knowledgeable, passionate staff will help you choose from the impressive beer list. Try the Alpine Hoppy Birthday on tap or choose from the rotating beer menu. This list features highly limited edition beers such as Modern Times’ Mega Blazing World — a refreshing beer brewed in San Diego.

Even if beer is not your drink of choice, there are plenty of options at Barrel Down. Try their unique Kombucha Mule, a mix of Treaty Oak Starlight vodka, Kombucha Dog kombucha, lime and Bunderberg ginger beer, served with a slice of candied ginger. This cocktail is a perfect example of what makes Barrel Down so unique — they take a classic and skillfully update it.

As we all know, beer pairs well with food and there are plenty of choices, including many vegetarian options, to choose from. Start with the popular cauliflower popcorn, lightly tempura-battered cauliflower with chili lime vinaigrette and ginger aiolI for $6 or opt for an entrée. The Barrel Down Burger is a flavorful combination of dry-aged sirloin topped with smoked cheddar, dill pickles, caramelized onion, tomato and little gem lettuce on a brioche bun. The wait staff is friendly and may substitute the meat for their homemade veggie burger upon request.

Finally, no night is complete without dessert. Order the chocolate yeti mousse, a light dessert made with Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout on tap, or share a flight of desserts for $8.

Enjoy your beer in good company and return to Barrel Down with friends.
