Gelato is a must-have when visiting Italy. It’s not quite ice cream, though it looks similar, it tastes so much better. With so many options to choose from it’s hard to nail down the best, but here are a few you shouldn’t miss.
Ciampini
This little spot near the Pantheon isn’t very trendy, but it’s definitely traditional. Help yourself a scoop covered in marron glacés, wherein they mix chewy and candied chestnuts into the mix. It’s rich and delicious.
Gelateria Petrini
Family owned since the 1950s, Gelateria is a great showcase of exactly how gelato is supposed to be made. They serve up their cones with only fresh ingredients in more than 30 different flavors. Try the pistacchio and you’ll see why this little shop is a former winner of the Gelato World Cup.
Gelateria del Teatro
Gelateria del Teatro is one of the new kids in town, having only been open a few years, but it’s already making a name for itself thanks to sourcing ingredients from specific areas of Italy. It has a wide range of chocolate flavors to choose from, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them.
Gelarmony
There’s no gelato better than that which comes from Sicily, and that’s exactly what Gelarmony makes. There are more than 60 flavors to choose from here and it’s often cited as the best overall shop in all of Rome. It’s also a popular spots for locals to come and hang at night, if you want to mingle.
