The idea of a staycation is highly underrated: Imagine a few days away from the office to spend quality time in the town where you reside and get to know your area in a way you may never have before. Not everyone has the money saved to take off to exotic locations, so a staycation can be an enjoyable alternative. Read on for suggestions for how to make the most of your next holiday at home.
Make a (tentative) plan. This may include doing some reconnaissance with peers: What is there to see and do that you have not already seen and done? How much will it cost? How much time do you have to devote to this temporary life of leisure? Laying out some sort of plan will ensure you absorb every minute of your staycation.
Live like a tourist. Most travelers aspire to live like locals, but you already have this nailed down. Instead, try to live like you are on a real vacation. If resources allow, stay in a hotel or hostel, meet other travelers, seek out free, guided tours and see all that a tourist would see. There is no better way to appreciate where you live than to learn as much as you can about it.
Let yourself relax. Packing your days full of activities will only leave you feeling exhausted. Before returning to work, save some time to veg out, clean out your closet or catch up with friends. Your time off is your time off, and you are free to spend it how you please.
