Move over mugs and make room for #coffeeinacone, the newest Instagram sensation.
Pictures of artfully crafted lattes have always been popular on the ‘gram, but lately these have taken a backseat to coffee beverages served in wafer cones. With more than 1,800 #coffeeinacone posts on Instagram, this new coffee craze has definitely taken the internet by storm.
As someone who tends to end up with ice cream spilling out from the bottom of her cone every summer, the first thing that came to mind when I heard about this new coffee trend was the danger factor. A hot drink served in a flimsy cone with a hole in the bottom sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen.
To combat potentially dangerous leaks, the cones these lattes are served in are coated with a thick layer of chocolate, and are popularly served in an accompanying paper cone to protect your hands. But the chocolate layer won’t last long. These drinks are meant to be enjoyed within a few minutes of serving to ensure the cone won’t start to get mushy.
Although many believe this inventive method of serving creamy coffee treats in a cone originated in Los Angeles, Calif., It actually started at The Grind Coffee Company in Johannesburg, South Africa. Since then, these treats are now being sold all over the world, with coffee companies putting their own spin on the cones by adding different flavors and decorations to the rims of the cone.
Now you can have your latte and eat it too!

Known as Florida’s Forgotten Coast, this stretch of the Florida Panhandle is often overlooked for more well-known destinations in the state, such as Panama City Beach, Miami and Tampa.
