Travel is not a sufficient excuse to keep you from exercising. In fact, walking, jogging and running are fantastic ways of seeing somewhere new, albeit a little quicker than a leisurely stroll with a guidebook in hand. Thanks to Almost Awesome, the developers of WalkJobRun (http://www.walkjogrun.net/), smartphone users can set out for some exercise in a new city based on routes entered by locals sharing their favorite runs.
The app uses the GPS in your phone to provide you with thousands of running routes worldwide based on your location and takes the mystery out of where to turn to avoid hills, poor quality sidewalks and even muggers as the app is designed to focus on the safest routes.
If you choose not to take one of the predetermined routes available in the app you can also make your own way, track it with the app and then share it with others if you think you found a great route.
The app also syncs with Bluetooth devices like those made by Apple and Fitbit to track your speed and offer suggestions if you’ve set a goal for your pace.
One more feature that RunJogWalk offers is the ability to meet strangers who are going for a run by allowing you to “check in” to a route you’ve selected to work that day.
Lastly, the app has a library of articles on the science and health benefits of running as well as pieces to help you avoid injury from doctors and famed running coaches.
