How to Get There

There are an increasing number of non-stop routes from major American and Canadian cities, like New York, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Detroit, Seattle, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Toronto and Vancouver. Most people start their trip in Beijing and end in Shanghai. Direct flights take around 11–14 hours. Check websites like Expedia for the best deals on flights.

Best Places to Visit

Beijing and Shanghai are the most popular cities to visit in China. Beijing has a lot of history to see, including Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the National Museum of China and Old and New Summer Palaces. Shanghai is the largest and most-developed Chinese city. It is filled with skyscrapers, shiny shopping malls, luxurious hotels and prestigious art centers.

Where to Stay

Ranging from top-class/boutique resorts to chain hotels to local-experience lodging, there are many options. Boutique hotels and top resorts offer the most luxurious stay, costing $250 and up per night. Chain hotels average around $100–250 per night. Local-experience hotels average around $50–100 a night. Most of the cities are vibrant at night, so if you’re a fan of nightlife choose a downtown hotel near the action.
