The Spanish city of Granada is famous for its Moorish architecture, but there is plenty more to the city than the Alhambra.
The International Festival of Music and Dance takes place from June 17 to July 8, with a huge number of events spanning multiple disciplines. Among the biggest names that will appear at the festival are the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Joven Orquesta Nacional de Espana and the Prague National Theatre Ballet.
Many of the performances will take place in the palaces and gardens of the Alhambra itself, providing a stunning setting for the festival. Outside of the main event space there are myriad smaller events which take place across the city, and indeed the region, which means there is truly something for everyone.
Ticket prices vary according to the event, but the cheapest seats to see the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will cost you $35. It’s not the cheapest, but how many times in your life will you get to see one of the most famous orchestras in the world perform in a Moorish palace in the south of Spain.
Granada is a destination worth visiting even when the festival is not running, so make the most of your trip and bundle the two together. If you want to get out of the city and explore the rest of southern Spain, the colonial city of Seville is another amazing spot.
