For many people looking to give their friend a final send-off in western Europe, Amsterdam is a frequent bachelor party destination. However, contrary to popular belief, this Dutch city offers more than the stereotype of hedonism it has earned from its famous red light district. In reality, it is a serene, mild-mannered old world town, rich with culture and subtly. Its peculiar diversity presents a melting pot of experience, and stresses free thought and free living over provocativeness. Amsterdam can be a great bachelor party locale if those involved are looking for a relaxing but unusual adventure.
Cannabis Coffee Shops
On what seems like nearly every street corner of the city, visitors can find cannabis coffee shops. These cozy cafes typically offer an assortment of pastries, pie, coffee and, of course, lengthy menus of legal cannabis for in-house use. One notable coffee shop is Dampkring, an Amsterdam fixture complete with glowing red lights, and a friendly cat that can be found sitting in the windowsill.
The Heineken Experience
For groups of beer aficionados, there is The Heineken Experience located at the former Heineken brewery. Visit this renovated and reimagined factory complete with a self-guided multimedia experience, and then check out the nearby horse stables before finally enjoying a few fresh beers. Just don’t forget to say “Proost!” (Dutch for cheers).
Paradiso
After the sun sets, groups can venture on over to Paradiso, one of the most famous nightlife locations in the city. This former church, complete with stained glass windows and numerous balconies, features two concert halls — the larger for well-known actsand the smaller for up-and-comers. Often, this spot converts into a lively club with an in-house DJ. Other frequent shades of Paradiso include a cultural center that hosts fashion shows, a theater for film screenings and even a lecture hall for renowned scientists to articulate their ideas.
