When it comes to ceviche, Lima is the place to be, and Barra Mar is one of the best spots in town.
You’ll find it on Avenida La Mar, in Miraflores, a short walk away from the beach. Given that the menu is made up overwhelmingly of seafood, it’s great to know you’re so close to the source.
The space itself is simple, with high seats arranged around a bar that looks into the kitchen. Order a beer and watch the chefs cook up your food as you wait, although you never have to wait too long. Even on a busy Saturday afternoon, service was rapid and the portions are huge.
Ceviche is the No. 1 dish on the menu, but you can also order seafood rice or a fish sandwich if you feel like something more substantial. The ceviche is great, and the seafood rice is as tasty as any I had in Lima. Order the rice to share or you’ll quickly find your eyes were bigger than your belly.
Barra Mar comes highly recommended for its quality seafood at an affordable price. Other ceviche restaurants may claim to be the best in the business, but many are trading off reputation rather than food, and they’re expensive to boot. Choose Barra Mar for the perfect balance between taste and price.
