Just south of the California border lies one of Mexico’s most culturally rich and exciting, if not slightly chaotic, cities: Tijuana. There are plenty of reasons to visit this eclectic city, but perhaps none more compelling than their stellar array of taco carts and restaurants. Here are some of the best.
Tacos Kokopelli
This bustling restaurant started as nothing more than a street cart and has grown into a brick-and-mortar hotspot that serves up some pretty famous octopus pesto tacos that are an absolute delight. Its location near Tijuana’s best beaches make it the perfect midday snack.
Mariscos Ruben
Mariscos Ruben has been featured on Bizarre Foods thanks to the unique culinary creations that have been thought up in this spunky taco stand. Expect to find octopus and marlin as the primary meats in their tacos, with some spicy flavors served alongside great spirits. It’s pricey, but oh so worth it.
Tacos Fritos
The options are few but the flavors never ending at Tacos Fritos, located right across from the Mercado Hidalgo in Calle Javier Mina. This street vendor is known for his speed, pushing out plates in less than 30 seconds, which is why the long lines seem to move so fast. He only does beef birria and tripas, so don’t come expecting something weird.
Tacos Salseados
The guys at Tacos Salseados aren’t afraid to experiment and they’ve come up with quite a unique array of salsa creations to cover their dishes. One of the best in the city is the Quesataco, a scrumptious invention dripping with piping hot queso and other ingredients.
