Ice skating is a quintessential winter pastime. While ice skating in a rural setting might seem the most idyllic, that isn’t always an option for city dwellers. Check out our list of the best ice skating rinks in major cities.

 

Chicago

Take in views of the Chicago skyline from the ice at the Millennium Park McCormick Tribune Ice Rink. The rink is open November–March. Admission is free, though there is a charge if you need to rent skates.

 

Dallas

Located in the Galleria Dallas mall, the ice skating rink has been open since 1982. Several Olympic medalists graced the ice, including Dorothy Hamill and Kristy Yamaguchi.

 

Los Angeles

Ice skate in downtown Los Angeles at the Pershing Square rink. Besides skating, the rink hosts special events including curling lessons and a DJ night.

 

New York City

While there are several ice skating rinks in the city, the one at Rockefeller Center  is most famous. The iconic Christmas tree serves as a beautiful backdrop for skaters.

 

Philadelphia

Philadelphia’s Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest celebrates its 25th year this season. The rink is situated along the Delaware River with views of Philadelphia and New Jersey. Stop at the chalet-inspired Lodge for libations after your skate.

Airports with the Friendliest Staff

Where can you find the friendliest airport staff? According to Upgraded Points, at Portland International Airport. The travel company’s study focused on the 50 busiest airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Upgraded Points then analyzed Google and Yelp reviews for each airport, noting mentions of “friendly” or “rude” staff or TSA. Mentions were compared to the total number of reviews to calculate a ratio of positive to negative interactions, with each airport scored on a scale of 0 to 5 based on the ratio of positive mentions for a possible score of 50.
