With easing relations between the United States and Cuba, it seems every major company in the travel industry is clamoring to start business in the Caribbean nation.
Now, travel-booking site TripAdvisor allows Americans to book travel-related services in Cuba. Travelers were already able to book a flight directly through companies working in the country, like JetBlue and Airbnb, but TripAdvisor is one of the first travel booking companies to start Cuban operations.
Travelers now have a one-stop shop for bookings to and within Cuba, including air travel, hotel rooms, vacation rentals and even tickets to cultural attractions.
Travelers are still restricted in their travel to Cuba, and cannot venture to the country on a strictly pleasure trip. In booking through TripAdvisor, then, U.S. customers must self-report their reason for visiting Cuba, and that reason must fit into one of the 12 entry requirements set forth by the U.S. government. Still, it is up to the traveler to honestly report the intent behind the visit, so there’s potential for stretching the truth a bit.
