You may have seen a number of people trying carbonated facemasks on YouTube or your favorite beauty supply websites.

But do these bubbling masks actually do anything extra for your skin, or is it just a gimmick?

Most of these carbonated facemasks are made with charcoal and clay, which is what gives them their grey color. Activated charcoal powder has been used for years in beauty products as a natural way to remove dirt, treat oily skin and gently exfoliate.

The bubbles seem gimmicky. They are supposed to gently massage your face as the mask removes toxins and dirt from your pores. However, you can get the same effect from using a face massaging brush, or honestly, your hands.

The carbonation effect of the mask is what has been making these face masks highly popular for the past few months. After a few minutes, the mask puffs up into thick foam on your face. After this occurs, you are supposed to pat down the foam with wet hands and massage the mask onto your face before rinsing it off.

People have been raving about smooth skin and smaller pores after using this product, but it does not seem to have much to do with the bubble effect. In reviews, some complained about the mask drying out their skin, but otherwise enjoying their experience.

If you’re questioning the effectiveness of this bubbly mask, the charcoal and clay ingredients are probably going to help clear and smooth your skin. The bubbling effect just makes it a little more fun, especially for slumber parties or a bubbly addition to your end of day routine.

Where Can You Find the Mai Tai Mile?

Stay at Kona Village on the Big Island of Hawai’i and you may think your experience consists solely of private, residential-style luxury and perhaps the occasional fresh pineapple, but Rosewood Resort has something else a little special. More specifically, Kona Village has its very own Mai Tai Mile, where guests can find four unique and different takes on the Mai Tai. Each distinct drink is inspired by its setting and comes with its own story.
