With Earth Day on Friday, April 22, destinations all over the world come together to support the environment. Recently, the tourism industry became more aware of the environmental effects caused by travel and started to develop programs to promote sustainable travel and itineraries for travelers.
One of these tourism industries showing off its sustainable tourism is Chile. With a wide variety of geographic features, Chile dedicates much of its time and effort into protecting its land. The country spreads across South America, Oceania and Antarctica, and sits between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
The commitment to developing ecological tourism made Chile a role model for other Latin-American countries. Carolina Morgado, an activist and environmentalist, deserves much of the credit for Chile’s successes. Morgado serves as the executive director of Rewilding Chile, the legacy of Tompkins Conservation in Chile and the board president of Rewilding Chile. For more than 20 years, she worked with Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, playing a crucial role in creating seven national parks and expanding three. Carolina also led the efforts to transfer the administration of Pumalin and Patagonia National State Parks to the government.
Rewilding Chile is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the beauty and biodiversity of Chilean Patagonia for almost three decades. The organization achieves this by creating national parks rewilding, ecological restoration, community outreach, activism, public education and more. Rewilding Chile works to instill a culture of conservation to help the world regain its natural equilibrium.
