October marks the celebration of National Apple Month. The autumnal month is the perfect time to enjoy the popular fruit. The observance began as National Apple Week, before expanding to the entire month. Its mission is to increase apple sales and encourage consumer awareness and usage of apples and apple products. Follow our tips for celebrating the fall fruit all month long.
- Try new recipes highlighting apples. The fruit can be used to complement both sweet and savory dishes. Or make a dish where apples are the standout like apple butter, apple sauce, caramel apples or baked apples.
- Visit an apple orchard. A perfect fall activity, picking apples is a great way to spend the afternoon with friends and family. Many orchards offer fall events coinciding with apple picking season, so be sure to do your research before your visit.
- Plan a trip to Washington. With more than 175,000 acres of apple orchards, the state offers plenty of places to visit year-round. Apples are the official state fruit of Washington.
