Head to the lovely Prussia Cove and you will find an isolated patch of beauty on England’s south coast.
A few miles outside the town of Penzance, Prussia Cove looks like it’s from a different era. Small cottages cling to the steep hills looking over the cove where fishermen gather their nets. On a rocky outcrop lies the main house, an imposing dark stone edifice built into the cliffs.
The Coastguards Cottages are a three-minute walk from the main house along a country lane. We stayed here for a wedding, with six people in one three-bedroom cottage. It was certainly cozy, and there is only one bathroom, but for a few days it won’t make much difference.
The beds are comfortable and the views are fantastic, while the cottage was warm enough on fresh nights in early summer. If you want to spend some time in isolation — there is little phone signal here and no WiFI — the Coastguards Cottages are a lovely spot.
Take a walk along the southwest coast path, or just relax on the beaches. It’s like going back in time and getting away from the distractions of modern life, and all for the bargain price of around $150 per week per cottage.
