Heading to Senegal on a budget means you are better off looking for hostels than hotels. There aren’t many places offering dorm rooms as privates, but if you are traveling alone it’s worth seeking them out.
Those keen to do some surfing should consider Ngor Island, off the coast of Dakar. Here, you can stay at Surfcamp Ngor Island for about $20 per night, and you get to enjoy the pool and ocean to boot.
In the middle of the city, you can stay at Ker Jahkarlo. This recently built house offers private and dorm rooms over three floors. A bed in the dorm will cost around $12, while a twin private is $34. As with many places, those traveling in a pair can upgrade to a private room for not much more money.
It’s also worth checking out Kingz Plaza Dakar, which has clean dorm rooms for around $18 per night. This place is well-located within easy reach of beaches, the city center and nightlife options.
Get out of the city for a while and stay at Begue Pokai in the fishing village of Kelle. The focus is on sustainable tourism and the atmosphere is more relaxed than in the middle of Dakar.
