Health & Wellness

While many people will have already given up on their New Year’s Resolution to do more exercise, others will be looking to push themselves to greater heights.

One way of doing so is to sign up for one of the many marathons across Europe in 2016. Every keen sportsperson, or those keen to take on a challenge, should attempt to conquer a marathon at some point in their life.

Combine your physical exertion with a deserved city break following the Barcelona Marathon on March 13, where a couple of days on the beach, eating tapas and drinking Estrella Damm are sure to soothe your aching limbs.

If fashion is more your thing, sign up for either the Milan or Paris Marathon, both of which take place April 3. Reward yourself after the run with a new purchase from one of the myriad fashion houses that call both cities home.

One marathon that takes place in a truly unique setting is that of Mont Saint Michel, which finishes at the island home to an 8th-century abbey in the mouth of the Couesnon River in northern France. Stragglers will have to hurry up to avoid being cut off by the rising tide!

Another one-of-a-kind marathon takes place in Tromso, Norway. Runners set off on the Midnight Sun Marathon in the evening, finishing in the middle of the night. As you may have guessed from the name, Tromso is so far north runners finish the race in broad daylight.

Running any marathon is a serious achievement, but doing so in one of these cities will make the experience even more memorable.
