Shrimp is a summer staple. Seafood in general is consumed more during the summer because many travelers make their way to coastal destinations, but shrimp is king. Shrimp is added to many dishes and served in different forms. All summer, people purchase pounds of shrimp and cook them however they desire to go along with their meal. Several different ways to prepare shrimp are highlighted here to expose travelers to the world of shrimp.
Shrimp can be delicious when sautéed correctly. The sautéed version of shrimp is great to add to salads and pasta dishes. When you sauté shrimp, it should be cooked with a good amount of butter and thrown into a smoking hot cast-iron or steel skillet. The shrimp should have room to spread out, so it cooks properly.
Grilled shrimp is popular during the warmer months of the year. Grilled shrimp is still favorable, but with an added char taste only a grill can deliver. For grilling purposes, it’s best to use extra large shrimp so they don’t slip through the grates when they cook. Many use sticks and make skewers with the shrimp because it keeps them together and is a great way to serve them at a party.
Brined shrimp is juicy and adds lots of flavor to dishes. To brine shrimp, soak them in a brine of salt and water before cooking. This process is helps keep the shrimp plump and juicy when cooking. Brining any food helps to break down the muscle fibers in the food.
