It’s the end of an era at Disney California Adventure, where the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride, famous for its elevator drop, is closing. The tower will make way for a Marvel-themed ride, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.
The Tower of Terror will go offline Jan. 2, 2017, ahead of the switchover. You have until then to get your fill.
The new ride’s details were released at Comic-Con in July and promise an “immersive, exciting experience” set in the outer reaches of MCU’s galaxy, where the Guardians — Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista) and the dynamic duo Groot and Rocket (Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper) — live.
Mission Breakout is one of many Disney-Marvel mash-ups to get fans excited for the Guardians sequel movie coming in May 2017 to movie theaters.
The Tower of Terror will go out in style, as Disneyland’s annual “Halloween Time” runs through the end of October. The Tower will host a special “Late Check-Out” version that will allow riders to experience the drop in total darkness after sundown. There will likely be other special rides and celebrations as the year wraps up.
