Iceland’s first cascading waterfall lagoon is now open on the Golden Circle, the driving route near Reykjavik that takes visitors to some of Iceland’s most popular scenic spots.
Laugarás Lagoon encompasses nearly 11,000 square feet of therapeutic waters on the Hvítá River. Waters remain at a consistent 100–104 degrees Fahrenheit. Beyond the cascading waterfall, other features include a grotto, two saunas, a cold pool and two swim-up bars. An on-site restaurant called Ylja Restaurant offers seasonal, sustainable menus incorporating locally sourced ingredients and open-fire cooking.
Several lagoon pass options are available. A standard pass starting at $54 per person gives you access to all outdoor wellness areas and a personal changing room. The premium pass, starting at $74 per person, comes with additional towel service and a complimentary drink at one of the swim-up bars. The deluxe pass, for $125 per person, includes dining at Ylja Restaurant.
The lagoon is open year-round, allowing guests a chance to catch the northern lights during a winter visit. During the winter months, the lagoon is open until 9 p.m., allowing for more than enough dark hours to glimpse the lights.
