Tips / Travel

Sticking to an exercise routine while traveling can be daunting. Finding the time between sightseeing, dining and all the other attractive activities can be a challenge and finding a space can be even harder. Here are a few tips to help you stick to that schedule and nail your workouts while you are traveling.

Work out first thing in the morning

You never know what the day is going to bring; you don’t want to miss anything that comes up because you have to workout. This way you’ll be prepared. Besides, many studies have shown morning workouts are the best for your body.

Choose exercises that don’t require a lot of space

Before traveling, tailor your workout so you don’t require large areas. There are also many professional workouts that can be done easily in your hotel room. T25 is one that has the added bonus of being 25 minutes long.

Find a park

All cities have parks and you won’t be the only one taking advantage of the public space to workout. Many parks have exercise equipment — a bonus. As a last resort, most parks have a playground and benches to get in your pull-ups and pushups.

Look for classes

Check websites like MeetUp for free or cheap classes, expeditions and get-togethers.

Invest in resistance bands

Resistance bands are light and take up about the same room as a pair of socks. They can be adjusted to a higher or lower resistance depending on where you stand on the band. It beats carrying around a set of dumbbells.

Finally, if you’re in one spot for a week or more, look into a gym. Many gyms have trial memberships or day passes. Explain what you need and get them to work for you.
