Whether its camping in your local park, or a trek through the wilderness, follow these first aid tips to ensure safety on your nature outing.
Sterilization
Keep cotton swabs, antibacterial cream, alcohol wipes and hand sanitizer to clean your hands and prevent wounds from getting infected. Sterile, disposable gloves can also be handy.
Bandages
Be well stocked on a variety of bandages. Adhesives, gauze and blister pads will help prevent bleeding, and be sure to keep elastic wraps, medical tape and triangular bandages for sprains, breaks and any other injuries where you need to limit movement.
Over-the-Counter Medications
Pain relievers in the case of injury, but also have some medication for allergies and digestive problems to stay comfortable on your journey. Anti-itch products will help with bug bites and poisonous plant life, and if you plan on building fires, carry some burn-relief cream.
Medical Tools
Your first aid kit should be stocked with scissors, tweezers and safety pins to help with wounds and bandages. Also carry a digital thermometer in case someone in your group falls ill.
Preparation
Other than a first aid manual, be sure to know the nearest medical facilities and have a plan in case of an emergency. Record emergency numbers and the fastest route back to civilization.
