Oenology is the study and science of wine and winemaking. No, that’s not your Friday night meet up with friends. This is a serious degree with a growing demand throughout the world. Yes, you can study wine. Should you? Well, that’s up to you. Here are some of the best programs in the world to earn your degree in oenology.

Cornell University Viticulture and Enology

It takes two short sentences on the homepage to tell you what this is all about: “Grow grapes. Make wine.” Bam. Done. Viticulture is the study of growing grapes and New York’s lake region is a perfect place for it.

University of Bordeaux Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences

Because why not study winemaking in one of the world’s top winemaking regions? The Institute offers a variety of study programs and levels: Master of Oenology and Grape and Wine Environment, Bachelor of Wine Tourism, wine-tasting certificate and beyond.

University of Adelaide Master in Wine Business

This two-year master’s program prepares students for the domestic (Australia) and international wine trade. It includes both oenology and viticulture, and students study and perfect the entire wine value chain.

University of California, Davis

UC Davis offers both undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees in winemaking and business. Students of UC Davis also have the advantage of attending the Wine Executive Program (http://gsm.ucdavis.edu/wine-executive-program) if they choose, one of the world’s leading programs in the industry and possibly the best way to make contacts.

Washington State University

Similar to the previous schools, Washington State offers a variety of programs and levels for students. With everything from certificate programs to graduate courses, there is a wine class for you.
