GoPro’s Grab Bag of Mounts

The rugged GoPro camera is a great tool for capturing your adventures, whether you’re skiing or rafting or hiking or just about anything else. The tough little camera can be dropped, submerged or flown up in the air on a drone if you want. The only difficulty is getting it affixed to whatever tool you’re going to be using to capture your photograph.

GoPro sells a variety of mounting kits for various situations. Unfortunately, there’s a different mounting system for just about every tool imaginable, from your climbing helmet to your bike handlebars to your ski pole and beyond. Because GoPro doesn’t streamline the camera’s mounting capabilities, you’re going to have to buy something along the lines of the Grab Bag of Mounts, which comes with a whole slew of options for your camera.

It’s a little confusing to dump the bag out and try and figure out which mount is which and how they all are designed to be used. You can buy specific mounts — for a helmet, say — if you have just one use in mind, but practitioners of multiple sports will need to aim for the larger bag. If only GoPro would take a page from Apple’s book, we’d be looking at a streamlined, intuitive single-mount design.
