Philadelphia is a city rich in history. It was temporarily our nation’s capital and is the only World Heritage City in the United States. What better way to explore the city than on a historic tour? Historic Philadelphia offers several unique tours detailing the city’s rich history.
The Tippler’s Tour runs May–December. Available to anyone 21 years and older, the tour takes guests through the city’s historic district while sampling drinks and snacks along the way. A Colonial guide regales guests with stories of drinking traditions of Colonial times, including fun facts and 18th-century drinking songs. Stops on the tour include National Mechanics, City Tavern and Victoria Freehouse.
The Independence After Hours evening walking tour runs late May–October. Departing from the Independence Visitor Center, the tour visits historic landmarks, meeting with Colonial characters along the way. The experience begins with a three-course meal at the historic City Tavern. Next, tour Independence Hall, formerly the Pennsylvania State House, to learn more about the Declaration of Independence.
In addition to the walking tours, Historic Philadelphia offers admission and self-guided tours of the Betsy Ross House to learn more about America’s famous flagmaker and view special exhibits.
Prices for tours vary. Consult the website for details and to book.
