It turns out tailgating might not save you much money compared to stadium concessions, according to a recent infographic on AdAge from IPG Media Lab.

The statistics reveal the 24 percent of NFL stadium-goers who tailgate spend about $196 per game on food, drinks and other tailgating supplies. With the average tailgater attending three games per year, spending adds up quickly, to $588 per season.

IPG Media Lab detailed the spending at each level, showing the $196 budget averaged $28.65 for beer; $17.09 for soft drinks; $16.61 for burgers; $15.37 for snacks like chips, dip and peanuts; $14.16 for steaks; $13.19 for liquor; $12.52 for chicken; $12.22 for side dishes like potato salad and beans; $10.64 for hot dogs; and $8.06 for bratwurst.

Tailgating is usually expected to save fans money compared to stadium concessions, averaging $9 per beer and $7 per hot dog. But in reality, it might not save you much.

Other interesting highlights from the infographic reveal the top three favorite teams for the 2015 season are the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots, and 30 percent of fans would miss a parent’s birthday party to see a favorite team play in the Super Bowl.
