Tips / Travel

There is nothing more exciting than gearing up for a vacation you have been planning for months, or maybe even years! The adrenaline surrounding a new experience is enough to keep you awake on your multi-hour flight across the world. Returning from your trip, however, can be difficult. Facing work, daily duties and potential stagnation can be a real drag. Utilizing the tips below may help you break out of a possible post-vacation rut.

Unpack right away. Doing laundry and re-stocking your travel-sized toiletries may be the last thing on your mind when you walk through your front door. Tackling this task first, though — maybe while you are still nursing jet lag — will force you to face the fact you are no longer on vacation and will restore your life to normal as quickly as possible. The longer your suitcase sits on your floor and remains unpacked, the more difficult it will be for you to emotionally and mentally re-acclimate to your environment.

Make plans. Before you leave on your long-awaited getaway, make plans for the days after you return. If you anticipate facing the dreaded jet lag, be gentle with yourself and listen to your body. On the contrary, if you feel raring to go, make a commitment to go to an exercise class, meet friends for coffee or have a picnic with friends. Distracting yourself and reminding yourself of the joys of everyday life even when you´re not traveling are two ways to stave off the post-travel blues.

Make even more plans. If you find yourself really yearning for your next adventure, it´s never too early to start planning! Whip out the globe and contemplate your next destination. If your funds are tight, plan a staycation and remind yourself just how wonderful your town can be.
