How To Pull Off A Valentine’s Day Wedding

Many couples choose to have their wedding on Valentine’s Day, perhaps because they think it’s the most romantic day to celebrate their love, or maybe because they simply couldn’t come up with a better date. Unfortunately for anyone planning a wedding for Valentine’s Day, many other people think along the same lines — Valentine’s Day is “their” romantic day. This may ultimately lead the engaged couple to encounter a string of annoyed relatives and friends.

With that warning out of the way, if a bride and groom are considering setting aside their nuptial day as Feb. 14, they should by no means allow other people’s opinions to hinder them. There are plenty of ways to have a fantastic Valentine’s Day wedding that everyone will love. However, if you are worried about guests not being able to make the date, you can easily set your wedding for the Saturday before Valentine’s Day, and time your honeymoon to coincide with the holiday.

The primary thing to remember when planning a Valentine’s Day wedding is that, even though your wedding and the day coincide, that by no means indicates your wedding is required to be Valentine’s Day themed. Your colors do not have to be pink and red. You do not have to place cherubs in the centerpieces. Your favors should under no circumstances be candy hearts. Your guests will thank you. Make your wedding day a celebration of you, not of Saint Valentine.

Also, consider doing something a bit out of the ordinary given your date of choice. In this case, the classic option of a morning wedding with brunch reception is entirely acceptable, and may even be a welcome time for everyone. You may also consider a destination wedding, inviting only your closest relatives and friends and hiring locally, having an early evening wedding on the beach, followed by a brief dinner, then allowing your guests and staff to retreat for their own romantic rendezvous, made more special by the tropical or exotic location.

Remember, a Valentine’s Day wedding can most certainly be done, but it will only be successful if you’re courteous to your guests, and create a celebration fitting to you and your fiancé, not just another Valentine’s Day party.
